With old age one needs to pay more attention to health. Stained or yellowing teeth swollen gums, pain indicated the signs of vitamin deficiency. This can happen because of poor diet also. One of the main reason behind the staining of the teeth is drinking of coffee or smoking.

As we grow older we have to take a closer look and pay even more attention to our health then we did before because all the bad habits, poor diet and vitamin deficiency will catch up with you; for example, yellowing teeth or stained from years of drinking coffee or smoking, painful, swollen gums and loose teeth roots show signs of vitamin deficiency or poor diet. Senior dental care can be as easy or as hard as you make it because it does require extra care but when done on a daily basis you will be able to enjoy a bright smile and your favorite dishes without even realizing their age in the process. Here are a few common issues senior dental care is facing: darkened teeth, dry mouth, root decay, which is caused by poor oral hygiene, gum disease, tooth loss and thrush, which are caused by drugs that you may be taking for an existing disease. Each of the above senior dental care issues need to be addressed from case to case depending on the age and also on the present state of health, as many senior dental problems occur due to another medical condition.

Dentures

The most common senior dental care however is replacing of your own teeth and getting dentures; this is a long, painful and very expensive procedure, which will be on going for years even after your dentures are ready as the gums keep shrinking and so the dentures will need constant adjustment to fit appropriately. It is very important you have dental care insurance, as a senior dental care plan may be very difficult to get and extremely expensive however, if you don't have any it will still be helpful as you will be able to avail of some discounts and partial coverage depending on the work done. Daily oral hygiene is extremely important, as what you practice while you are young will affect you when you grow older and as an elderly you must never neglect your health, as it can provoke fatal diseases.

Brush your teeth twice everyday, rinse your mouth after every meal and floss at least once a day. Regular dentist check ups are also recommended even if you have healthy teeth, as at times the dentist can see and prevent a disease before it occurs. If you have dentures, ensure you remove and clean them on a daily basis as well.
